Job Description:

Heart and Hands Wine Company is seeking a Cellar & Vineyard Assistant for a ~40 hours/week position. We are a small boutique winery in the Finger Lakes with a focus on Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Chardonnay. Because we are a small operation, this is a very hands-on position with the opportunity to participate in a variety of tasks.

Cellar Responsibilities include:

  • Equipment Cleaning
  • Bottling and Packaging (Racking, filtering, equipment sanitation, bottling / labeling)
  • Topping up Barrels
  • Basic Lab analysis and monitoring of wines and grape samples
  • Wine/must movement
  • General Winery clean up

Vineyard Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Tying Vines
  • Re-Planting Vines
  • Suckering
  • Shoot Thinning
  • Shoot Positioning
  • Leaf Pulling
  • Weed management
  • Trellis wire management
  • Installation and maintenance of netting
  • Collecting field samples from individual blocks
  • Collecting the hand-picked fruit
  • Monitoring for pest issues including insect, animal, and fungus/bacteria

During Harvest Season, additional responsibilities include:

  • Equipment Cleaning and Sanitation
  • Wine/must movements
  • Additions to wines/musts
  • Punch Downs & Pumpovers
  • Barrel Prep / Filling
  • Fermentation monitoring / Juice analysis (Brix, pH, TA, VA),

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Candidates should demonstrate a passion for premium wine production, good communication skills, attention to detail and a strong work ethic

- Candidates must be able to physically perform all cellar duties related to harvest, vineyard management and cellar work

- Must be able to lift 50 lbs and work extended hours in a physically demanding environment

- Must be able to perform work duties in and outdoors

- Must be able to work in various temperature conditions, with moderate noise levels

- Valid Driver’s License required

- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English

- Ability to accurately calculate figures

- Creative, flexible, and innovative team player

- Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines

- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm

- A minimum of a 2-year degree in Enology or Viticulture or 2 years of wine production or vineyard experience

- Minimum of 2 years of tractor (35hp+) driving experience. Row crops preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.50 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
