Harvest Intern at Hess Persson Estates

Description

We are looking for people who are passionate about wine, have a positive attitude, are detail oriented, enjoy learning new things, and are willing to work hard. Interns will assist in all facets of harvest work including lab analysis, cleaning and sanitizing equipment, sorting fruit, punch down and pump overs, making additions and managing fermentations according to winemaker instructions, wine movements and barrel work, and other winery-related tasks.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Follow established Hess Collection laboratory methods and protocols.
• Crush analysis, grape samples, incoming grape analysis, and daily fermentation monitoring.
• Occasional yeast and nutrient additions
• Malolactic fermentation inoculation and monitoring.
• Perform state-of-the-art sanitation monitoring.
• Transport samples between our Napa and American Canyon locations
• Other duties and responsibilities as required, including basic cellar activities such as topping, cleaning/sanitizing, additions to tanks.

Qualifications Requirements

• Background in chemistry, fermentation science, biology, or lab experience preferred.
• Basic laboratory and computer skills.
• Strong written, verbal, and mathematical skills.
• 1-2 years of harvest experience in lab or cellar preferred, but not required.
• Some proficiency in Spanish preferred but not required
• Attention to detail, takes pride in work and aspires to maintain continual personal and professional growth
• Must have a valid driver's license

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. • Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
• Must be able to climb stairs, sample tank tops, sample barrels at floor level.
• During harvest, a 6-day work week is expected in addition to extended hours, varying shifts, nights, and weekends
• This is a temporary position starting in August and continuing through the end of harvest.

This role’s compensation is anticipated to fit within the range of $19.00 - $23.00 per hour. These figures represent what we reasonably expect to pay for this position, but the actual compensation offered will depend upon numerous job-related factors, including but not limited to candidate skills, experience, knowledge and education.
