Winery Cellar Assistant (part-time, contractor)
Above Ground Winery is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Cellar Assistant to join our team. This role is essential for maintaining the organization and cleanliness of our cellar and ensuring optimal conditions for wine storage and production. The ideal candidate will have a passion for and some knowledge of winemaking, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment. This is a part-time, contractor position with flexible hours. Maximum 6 hours per week. This is a position that may grow into more responsibilities and more hours, if desired.
Must be able to lift heavy objects, be conscious about safety, and 21 years of age or older.
Responsibilities
1. Cellar Maintenance: Ensure the cellar is clean, organized, and maintained to the highest standards, including regular cleaning of barrels, tanks, and equipment.
2. Inventory Management: Assist in managing the inventory of wine and supplies and ensuring adequate stock levels.
3. Wine Handling: Safely handle and transfer wine between storage areas, ensuring minimal exposure to oxygen and maintaining optimal temperature and humidity conditions.
4. Equipment Maintenance: Assist in the maintenance and cleaning of cellar equipment, ensuring it is in good working order.
5. Quality Control: Monitor and maintain quality standards for stored wine, reporting any issues to the winemaker.
6. Team Collaboration: Work closely with the winemaking team and other staff to support overall winery operations and achieve production goals.
7. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of cellar activities, inventory maintenance, and quality control data.
Qualifications
1. Education and Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Must be 21 years or older. Previous experience in a winery or similar environment is preferred, but not mandatory.
2. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and perform physical tasks as required.
3. Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
4. Flexibility: Availability to work varying schedules, including weekends, as needed during peak seasons.
5. Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and cleanliness.
