Job description: Assistant Winemaker
Simpson Family Estates is growing and looking to bring on a full-time Assistant Winemaker to our winemaking team for both of our home wineries, Aurora Cellars and Good Harbor Vineyards. This is position requires a few years of experience working in winery production (or related production). The most important additional requirements are a strong drive for making quality wine, attention to detail, good communication skills, a positive attitude, ability to lead, and the willingness to learn. This is an excellent opportunity to develop a long-term career within one of the fastest growing productions in the wine industry, and hone skills across all facets of winemaking – Red wine production, White wine production, Sparkling wine production, as well as hard cider production. As one the largest vineyard farming entities in the state our success is driven by our collaboration with the vineyard management team to shape the wine from the ground up.
Position Summary
- This role will be expected to perform all basic winery cellar operations, with a focus on project management and organization. A willingness to participate in all aspects of winemaking from cleaning, to pressing, to bottling is a must.
- Working with the entire winemaking team to achieve goals and uphold winemaking standards.
- Communicate well within the team and be willing to learn new concepts. Questions are encouraged, as are fresh ideas.
- Record keeping and following standard operating procedures will be important with all daily tasks.
- Successful employees have an aptitude for learning and heightened attention to detail.
- Proficiency with basic math and verbal communication skills are preferred.
- Will be expected to operate some heavy machinery such as a forklift.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs, and operate in a safe and considerate manner.
- The position is full-time, 5 day work week. This position will work more flexible days and hours during harvest
